Memory cells to fight cancer

I was amazed to read a report on BBC Health about how white blood cells could be trained to fight cancer cells. This appears to be a do it yourself cancer treatment with incredible possibilities. http://bbc.in/mffHN4

Why the Icelandic volcano is still rumbling over a year on

Just over a year since the unprecedented impact of the volcano eruption in Iceland on air travel, consumers, insurers and airlines alike are still dealing with the fallout. Back in March I was interested to read of a case in the City of London County Court ruling the volcanic ash cloud did provide airlines with a defence not to pay compensation under the Denied Boarding Regulations.

NICE recommends new laser imager for assessment of burns.

The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) has supported the use of a particular type of laser imager which can map the area of blood flow to a burned area of tissue and determine which areas of the burn require surgical treatment in patients who have suffered burns of intermediate or uncertain depth. http://bit.ly/f7hYan

RNLI - give life saving advice

I was interested to read in the Isle of Wight County Press http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/wear-your-life-jacket-warning-38421.aspx, that the RNLI were giving sailors free life-saving advice at lifejacket 'clinic’ at East Cowes Marina.

CICA rule that injury caused by another's suicide attempt is considered crime of violence and so compensatable under the scheme.

In the case of Gareth Owen Jones who has suffered severe injuries when the vehicle he was driving was hit by a lorry which had swerved to avoid hitting a suicidal man (V) who had run onto the dual carriageway who was in fact killed.  Mr Jones made an application to the CICA for compensation but the application failed on the basis there had been "no crime of violence".

If you are renting a car in the USA, insure yourself before you go

The amount and type of coverage provided by motor insurance in the USA is fundamentally different from that in the UK and rest of the European Union. The way someone is insured in the USA varies from state to state, and can be as little as $10,000. Therefore, if someone is hit by a driver with a low level of insurance they may have no recourse for any money from the other party.

Aren't they called bumper cars for a reason?!

I was amused to read that all three Butlins resorts in Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness have banned visitors from bumping their cars together, requesting that they manoeuvre them carefully and sedately around the course instead!
