I would like to take this opportunity to thank Karen Thompson for all the help and support she has given me during the last 3 1/2 years. I am very pleased that I can finally put all of this behind me.

The cost of insurance fraud

Hot on the heels of the debate regarding the payment of referrals fees for personal injury claims, the insurance industry has announced new plans to stamp out insurance fraud, said to be costing the insurers an estimated £2bn a year and adding a bill for an extra £44 to every UK policyholder.

Court finds The National Trust not at fault after boy was killed by a falling branch

The High Court has handed down its decision in this tragic case which was viewed as  an important test case for landowners who open up their properties to the public.

Both vehicle drivers found partly to blame for accident.

A coach driver was found 70% liable for personal injuries sustained by a motorcyclist following a road traffic accident at a junction. The coach driver was found to have an obstructed view of oncoming traffic,  she should have waited for a more safe and secure opportunity to emerge.  However the motor cyclist was found 30% responsible as the risk of a vehicle emerging was obvious and foreseeable to any careful motorist.

Road-Work Zones: Slow down, pay attention and relax

It seems that everywhere you travel during the summer months it is difficult not to encounter some kind of road construction work.  Road workers sometimes have to work day and night to get the job done.

Are you unknowingly suffering from type 2 Diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes may be triggered by a variety of factors such as genetics, ethnicity and environmental factors, however the government has recognised a marked rise in the incidence of type 2 diabetes in response to increasingly sedentary lifestyles, obesity and poor diet; 'The increase in diabetes is extremely worrying. The Coalition Government has already signalled that public health is a priority. We must help people to tackle the causes of type 2 diabetes through dietary and lifestyle changes'.

Court of Appeal hearing for dog who knocked over a walker.

I was interested to read another recent case reported today involving a walker who had been knocked over by a dog which had been let off the lead. This is the second case which the Court of Appeal has heard on this subject.

Injuries as a result of criminal assault

As a team we deal mainly with accidents at work, accidents as a result of defective property or accidents arising out of slips and trips.  Not forgetting road traffic accidents.  Of course there are many different types of accidents and neighbouring teams also deal with accidents arising out of clinical negligence, and accidents abroad.  The list is endless.

Me, myself and ABI! -Specialist event for young people with acquired brain injury

I was interested to hear about an event being run by The Childrens Trust Tadworth specifically for young people (aged 14-19) with acquired brain injury that is being held on 18th September at the holiday Inn in Chessington, Surrey.  They are very keen to provide the opportunity for young people who have not accessed their services to come together for a day of worthwhile discussions and activities while meeting others in similar positions.

Spinal Injuries Association mounts High Court challenge against Ken Clarke's proposed legal reform

The Spinal Injuries Association (SIA), which represents the UK’s 40,000 spinal cord injured people, says Justice Secretary Ken Clarke’s plans in his Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill would be like ‘going back in time’ and have not been properly thought through.

Relationship rebuilt after head injury

As the solicitor who acted for Kevin Cleightonhills, I am all to aware of the impact his injury had on his family.  I was therefore interested to read the article that his mother Joy gave to the Daily Express on how their relationship changed and had to be rebuilt following the devastating injury.  I hope her story helps others out there going through the same difficulties.
