European Commission asks the UK to bring law in line with EU for protecting workers from Asbestos
Thu 24th Feb 2011 Personal injury
The European Commission has asked the UK to bring its law in line with that of the EU in relation to the protection afforded today to individuals working with asbestos. The commission has received a complaint that EU law has not been properly implemented into UK law. This currently exempts employers from providing protection where the work with asbestos is only sporadic and low intensity.
Ruth Johnson, from our Personal Injury team comments: "The challenge to UK law is welcomed. We see first hand the devastating effects that a diagnosis of an asbestos related injury can have on an individual and their loved ones. We have the benefit today that the effects of exposure to asbestos are now well known and as such employers should be taking all measures to ensure that further generations are not exposed to the same risks to their health."
If you have been exposed to asbestos and wish to discuss a potential claim please contact us.
