Motor insurers to reveal referral fee arrangements?

Karen Thompson I was interested to hear that a House of Commons inquiry has recommended that motor insurers should publish on their websites the names of law firms with which they have referral fee arrangements and to indicate the level of fees paid.

The inquiry was into the rising costs of motor insurance and the increasing concern over insurance fraud.  Further recommendations were that policyholders should be sent the fee information with their insurance documents and that when claims are made the insurers should make it clear to policyholders that they can choose their own solicitor.

I agree with a view taken by the Transport committee chair Louise Ellan, in that policyholders are largely unaware of how much money moves around the insurance industry in this way when they make a claim and that they deserve to see where their money is going.
