School skiing trip ends in tragedy following coach crash in France

A coach carrying British school children and a number of adults has crashed in Northern France, claiming one life and seriously injuring several passengers.

The group were travelling with the specialist tour operator Interski and returning from a skiing holiday in Italy.  It is reported the coach veered off the A26 motorway and down into an embankment at approximately 2am on the 19 February.  A British man aged 61 has died as a result of the accident and 27 others are reported to have been hospitalised, with 5 suffering from serious injuries.  The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is providing consular assistance at the scene and to the families of those affected.  Early reports suggest the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel as no other vehicles were involved.  He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
