Delay in diagnosis - appendicitis, abscesses or diverticular disease
The Clinical Negligence team at Blake Lapthorn solicitors has successfully pursued several cases where appendicitis, an abscess or diverticular disease has been missed, and compensation for personal injury has been achieved for our clients.
We have access to independent expertise in this area. Medical experts can examine your medical records in detail to determine whether the illness was made worse by a delay in diagnosing the condition and, if appropriate, prepare reports in support of your compensation claim for negligence.
If left untreated, appendicitis, abscesses or diverticular disease can be fatal, because the patient can contract peritonitis and go into shock. The impact on a patient can be significant, and the patient will usually require surgery to remove the appendix or treat the abscess or diverticular disease. Recovery will then usually take between four and six weeks, unless further complications arise.
We appreciate the wide ranging effects that this type of personal injury has on your life, and will ensure that all those factors are taken into account when quantifying your claim and, when appropriate, negotiating settlement on your behalf.
If we are able to secure an admission of liability from the defendant surgeon or hospital body, we will try to obtain an interim payment of damages on your behalf to help with immediate financial burdens whilst our investigations are completed and your claim is concluded.
