Needlestick injuries

The Clinical Negligence team at Blake Lapthorn solicitors has successfully obtained compensation for a number of clients who have been injured through the use of a potentially contaminated needle during medical treatment.

Healthcare workers are often thought to be most at risk of being injured by a 'needlestick', by virtue of their work. However, hospital patients can also be at risk of such injuries, for example, where they are mistakenly injected with a needle which has been used on another patient.

Whilst such an injury may be classified as a minor injury in physical terms, there is always a risk of infection and psychological effects to such an injury which go way beyond the significance of the wound itself. Obviously, if infection is caused by a contaminated needle then this will have devastating effects on the patient.

Through our experience, we are aware of the wide ranging effects that this type of injury can have on your life, and will ensure that all these factors are taken into account when quantifying your claim and, when appropriate, negotiating settlement.
