BL Claims Solicitors successfully obtained damages for Miss M following an incident when she sustained an anaphylactic reaction to iodine.
Miss M had a known history of allergic reactions to iodine, having previously suffered from anaphylactic shock as a result. She presented to the John Radcliffe Hospital with abdominal pain. A CT scan was requested. Miss M made the nurses aware that she was allergic to iodine, and this was noted on her medical records. She was given a contrast to drink and was reassured that this did not contain iodine. After drinking the solution she suffered an anaphylactic shock as the solution contained iodine. She had a rash on her arms and became wheezy. She suffered from a further reaction later that evening.
Miss M Made a good recovery the following morning and was discharged home three days later. Because of the allergic reaction Miss M spent longer in hospital than she otherwise would have done. She suffered from flashbacks and nightmares for a period afterwards.
