Our Clinical Negligence team has successfully recovered £4,500 following a claim for compensation for clinical negligence relating to substandard dental treatment.

In April 2013 Mr Q's crown fell out and he sought emergency dental treatment at a local dental practice. An appointment was made to refix the crown. The dentist explained that the post to support the crown was too small and that he needed to remove it and replace it with a bigger one. The dentist stated there would be no need for an anaesthetic as there were no nerves left within the tooth. However, within seconds of drilling Mr Q experienced pain and a burning sensation.

After some time manipulating the tooth and crown the dentist broke the crown leaving Mr Q with a post exposed with no crown or temporary crown to cover this. Mr Q was advised not to go to an alternative dentist but that he would be reviewed in the near future. Mr Q suffered 3 separate abscesses which burst.

Some months later, Mr Q moved house and registered with a different dentist. He underwent an X-ray which showed that the pin or post had gone straight through the tooth. Mr Q had to have the tooth surgically extracted.

Mr Q instructed BL Claims Solicitors as Specialist Clinical Negligence Solicitors. Liability was admitted by the dental practice and Mr Q agreed to accept £4,500 in full and final settlement of his claim.
