Our Clinical Negligence team has successfully recovered £1,500.00 following a claim for compensation as a result of delayed diagnosis of an ectopic pregnancy which occurred whilst under the care of the local NHS Trust Hospital.
On 19 March 2013 Miss E attended her GP after doing a pregnancy test at home which was positive. Her previous pregnancy in 2009 had ended in a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. She contacted her GP this time as she was experiencing intermittent pain. She attended the Pregnancy Unit the following day. No ultra sound scan was done and she was discharged home and advised to return if she became unwell or experienced a heavy bleed.
On 21 March 2013 Miss E's partner contacted the unit to advise that she was experiencing increasingly severe abdominal pain which had caused her to collapse. An ambulance was called and Miss E was taken to the local hospital. Miss E had a blood transfusion and was transferred for laparotomy surgery where some of her fallopian tube had to be removed. She was left with significant scarring to her stomach.
Ms E had suffered a rupture of the ectopic pregnancy and as a result collapsed. Had surgery been performed at the time of her initial visit to the hospital the previous day the fallopian tube could have been removed by laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) and she would have avoided the rupture and associated distress and collapse.
Miss E instructed BL Claims Solicitors as specialist Clinical Negligence Solicitors. The Hospital admitted liability and agreed to pay Miss E the sum of £1,500.00 in full and final settlement of the claim.
