Baby B was born in December 2013 by emergency caesarean section as he was showing signs of distress.

Shortly after his birth it was noted that he had profound hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) and low platelets (blood components that helps with clotting).

Baby B was very unwell but staff at the hospital failed to recognise this. Baby B then developed signs of acute liver failure but the neonatal team did not seek specialist advice until he was 5 days old.  At 8 days old he was transferred to a London hospital for specialist care but sadly died of multi organ failure, secondary to his acute liver failure, two days later.

Baby B's parents contacted BL Claims solicitors as specialists in clinical negligence.  Expert evidence was obtained and the Trust admitted that there was a delay in referring Baby B to the specialist hospital. Following negotiations Baby B's parents accepted £13,000 in full and final settlement of the claim.
