But are Brits really cutting back on their holidays?  Thomas Cook's statistics suggest that bookings by holidaymakers in other European countries have actually increased.  I don't think that this means Brits are travelling abroad less, they are probably just adopting a typical British reserve and approaching their holiday plans with caution.  And who can blame them? 

With ongoing unrest in the Middle East and allied forces in Libya using Cyprus and Malta air bases, last minute bookings have the obvious appeal of allowing holidaymakers to go where its safe for a good price.  Let's also not forget that Thomas Cook is known for its traditional package holidays.  Consumers are now wise to creating their own dynamic packages which could offer further explanation for the big tour operator's concerns over the number of bookings year on year.
