1. Get photographic evidence and, even better, video footage. Video footage can be particularly useful when it comes to a claim for breach of contract arising from a quality complaint.
2. Ensure any problems are reported to resort staff and make detailed notes on the problems you experience day to day, keeping a diary if possible. While this is not how most people want to spend their holiday, if things are really bad while you are away then this will put you in good stead to make a claim on your return home.
3. Obtain witness details and the names and addresses of others who have experienced similar problems in resort. It's best to take full details as those who promise to be witnesses while you're on holiday, and only give you an email address, can often quickly change their minds when they get home. With full details, if necessary, they can be summonsed to court to give evidence.
When you do get back, once you've recovered over a no doubt much needed cup of homemade tea, report any concerns or claims you need to make to your relevant insurer (this could be home insurance as well as travel insurance) and get prompt, expert legal advice.
