Use of the scanner is recommended in conjunction with clinical evaluation in the specialist burns units around the country although the need for the clinician to be appropriately trained in the operation of the scanner and interpretation of the images is emphasised. The studies carried out by NICE indicate that overall, use of the moor LDI2 BI scanner would save an average of over £1,200 per patient.

The local specialist burns unit is at Salisbury District Hospital, serving a wide area including Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. A Doppler scanner appears to have been in use at the Salisbury Burns Unit since at least 2004, and is also routinely used at some other burns centres. However this official support from NICE means that such diagnostic imaging should eventually be available on the NHS within all burns centres in England and Wales.
