tripping claims on an almost daily basis, a lot of these are caused by potholes  I was therefore interested to read an article in The Daily Echo cleverly titled "Surface tension as road is dug up after one day".

Residents in Oxford Road, Sutton Scotney near Winchester are up in arms after the road was freshly tarmaced and the previous surface ,that had been pitted with potholes, was no more.  However, less than 24 hours later Southern Water contractors came along and dug the road up again, much to the fury of the residents!  Investigations are currently underway to establish why the works were not carried out prior to the resurfacing, with the local Council advising they were not aware of the work being carried out by Southern Water.
The original resurfacing works are said to be good for 30 years, however the Southern Water patch is only expected to last for 2 years, and hence the dreaded potholes are then likely to return.  Hampshire County Council have spent a vast amount of money on Operation Resilience, to tackle the thousands of potholes on county roads caused by the two recent harsh winters.  Unfortunately, for Oxford Road this appears, in part, to have been a waste of money.
