The US Consumer Product Safety Commission annouced another recall of all single and double Maclaren pushchairs sold before November 2009 as a result of more accidents involving the amputation and laceration of childrens fingertips.  I understand that Maclaren have received more than 149 reports of accidents, including 37 injuries that occurred after the first recall of the pushchairs in November 2009.
In the UK Maclaren have advised that they will not be recalling pushchairs or warning parents to take precautions on the basis that the models sold in the UK were not affected by the problem in America.  However this does not appear to be the case as I have learnt that solicitors handling claims for British children have won compensation for more than 40 children paying between £2,500.00 - 10,000.00 compensation.
Despite the apparent denial of liability by Maclaren I would strongly recommend any parents, whose children trap their fingers in the hinges of the pushchair and injure themselves as a result, to seek legal advice.
