Sheriff Nikola Stewart said today that the crash could have been avoided had McRae not engaged in low level flying "when it was unnecessary and unsafe".  The hearing has gone on for some months.  In March this year the court heard that McRae should not have been flying the helicopter as he was neither licensed nor qualified to fly the helicopter. The aircraft came down at high speed near to his Lanark home and McRae, his five-year-old son Johnny and school friend Ben Porcelli aged six, and 37-year-old Graeme Duncan all died.

Nothing good can come of this and I just hope that rules are tightened to prevent such tragedies from occurring, anywhere.
