The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuted Block Scaffolding following the incident which saw a false floor drop by more than four feet at the wedding venue in Newbury.  The wedding couple had organised for scaffolding to be erected to counteract the slope of the lawn and keep the marquee floor level at the venue, West Woodhay House.  However, the scaffolding beneath the marquee floor collapsed when catering staff were about to serve the first course.

The bridal couple and their guests fell to the ground, along with tables, chairs and glasses.  The scaffold poles also fell into the marquee. The company had failed to overlook basic health and safety and had they done so a precious day would not have been ruined.

Fortunately no-one was seriously injured but of course, the wedding day was ruined and cannot be replaced. The scaffolding company were fined £8,000.00 and ordered to pay costs of £7,370.00.
