SCAS reveals that 1,235 hoax calls and many more inappropriate calls were made during last year including calls to help find lost TV remote controls and to change light bulbs!

Yesterday SCAS launched a hard hitting campaign film in order to illustrate to the public how this emergency is often abused and its potential consequences.  Follow this link to view.

Each call to the emergency ambulance service resulting in an attendance costs £257.  This is of course nothing compared to the human cost of those suffering with REAL emergencies such as road traffic incidents, cardiac arrest and other life-threatening conditions, who have to wait perhaps longer that necessary for an ambulance to become available.

Will Hancock, Chief executive of SCAS urges the public to think before dialling 999 and to remember that the ambulance service is for emergencies and life threatening situations only: For all non life-threatening health issues alternative methods of health care are available to you, such as your GP, NHS Direct, walk-in centres and other out of hours health services.

Every second counts in a real emergency so think before dialling 999; for every hoax or inappropriate 999 call there may be someone whose life is put further at risk by having to wait for an ambulance to arrive.
