I have read this morning about a tragic accident where a gentleman who needed to make repairs to his caravan died.

The gentleman had jacked up the caravan with what he thought to be adequate support.  Unfortunately, once underneath the caravan carrying out the repairs, the caravan became dislodged and fell onto him causing him serious injuries from which he died two days later.

The Coroner entered a verdict of accidental death recording that the caravan had not been adequately supported causing it to dislodge and fall onto the victim.

It is essential when carrying out any type of repairs to vehicles at home that you are not only competent to carry out the repairs but that you ensure you use the correct tools and apparatus to carry out the repair especially if it is necessary to work underneath the vehicle.

Not only should you make sure you are aware of the pressure points on the vehicle where a jack can be used, but that you have an adequate jack for the job taking into account the size of the vehicle and using a jack and/or supports to take the weight of the vehicle.
