I was interested to read in the ITIJ that only 13 per cent of those surveyed in the UK recently by the European Commission know about the European Union wide 112 emergency services number.
If you are visiting an EU Member State and need to call the emergency services then dialling 112 will get you through to the relevant local authorities.  This is a number anyone travelling to Europe should commit to memory as you never know when you might need to call for assistance from the police, fire service or an ambulance crew.

Only the people of Greece and Italy fall behind the UK in terms of their knowledge of the 112 number. The ITIJ article highlights how British Airways, easyjet and other major transport companies are teaming up to campaign for greater awareness. So add this to your list of must-haves when packing this summer.
