"It is estimated that about 100,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year. But many cases go undetected for years, meaning delayed treatment and a poorer outlook.

Signs to be aware of include changes to moles, such as itching, bleeding or changing shape or colour."

The hairdressers will need to be careful not to 'scare' their clients into a panic, and indicate that they have skin cancer, but they will be able to draw to their client's attention any abnormalities on their scalp or back of neck, which in turn can prompt the client to get checked by their GP.

I for one, think this is a good idea; most people could easily miss an abnormality on their scalp and back of neck, and the earlier skin cancer is spotted and diagnosed, the better the prognosis and rate of survival.
