The man, who has not been named, apparently was badly burned after he was told to remove the top of a propane gas tank with a disc cutter.

The accident occurred at the home of Jamie Jewell, a director of Totton based Suffix Pre Cast, on the 2nd September 2011.   Mr Jewell, it seems, was not aware of the hazards of handling propane gas.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigated matters and Southampton magistrates ordered Mr Jewell to pay £2,000.00 in fines and costs of £2,451.00.  The order came following Mr Jewell's admittance that he breached the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974.

The injured worker took three weeks of work and was restricted to light duties for a further month following his return to work.  I hope that he has now made a full recovery.  This accident should never have happened and I agree with the words of the HSE Inspector, Ray Kelly in that "It was irresponsible of the Defendant, Mr Jewell, to take an employee to his house".
