As she walked along the garden path to the front door, she was attacked and bitten by a dog, owned by the resident of the property, which was loose in the garden.  The owner admitted that the dog had a history of aggression towards the postman.

The lady suffered a serious bite to her lower left calf. She had to have 9 stitches. The wound was cleaned under general anaesthetic and she had to have a skin graft. The wound later became infected and she had to take antibiotics. She relied on crutches for 2 months and her husband and daughter had to help with household duties. She could not drive or ride her horse for 8 weeks and couldn't go on a family holiday which had been booked for shortly after the injury occurred.  She was left with scarring to the skin graft area as well as the bite area. She also suffered a fear of dogs as a result.

The claim was brought against the owner of the dog. As he had pet insurance, the insurance company will have dealt with the claim on the owner's behalf.

She received damages of £10,500 which included £7,000 for her injuries, with the remainder for her financial expenses.
