The system automatically interferes with the driving of a car in the event of an increased likelihood of collision and it is capable of detecting when and if a driver is about to fall asleep.

The co-pilot becomes activated and will keep the vehicle safely on the road until the driver is shaken awake. The co-pilot uses on board cameras and laser rangefinders to identify obstacles which, when combined with various data points, such as the driver's performance and speed of the car and its stability, create 'constraints'. The co-pilot remains silent until you come close to breaking one of the constraints, such as taking a corner too quickly or, when a vehicle in front brakes quickly, which then sets into motion the robotics within the engine and transmission.

The control of the car is not passed back to the driver until the potential danger is over.

It is worth taking a look at the article which shows how technology is helping to keep us safe on the road.

As a safety mechanism this could be good news.  However, it can't possibly replicate a safe human response to hazards.

Also remember, don't drive tired!
