story this morning. All to do with Little Heath Primary School.... and the keeping of chickens.  A health and safety risk apparently.  The chickens should be sent packing... or should that be pecking?!

A petition has apparently been set up to save the little darlings.  Chickens that is.   From what I can see the story has got out of hand.  Welwyn Hatfield Council responded to an enquiry from the Health Protection Agency regarding a complaint made by a member of the public.  The Council then drew the school's attention to relevant guidance in the handling and keeping of animals in schools.  Sensible in my opinion.  They did not conduct a site visit to the school and do not intend ordering the school to get rid of their chickens. So it seems it all ends happily, well for the school and children at least.

The Council responded to a complaint; if they didn't they would be criticised for that.  The result is that the school can continue to educate their children and hopefully the children will come to understand that eggs don't just come in boxes.  As to whether or not they will learn which came first, the chicken or the egg, is another matter entirely!   Perhaps, however, there is one unhappy local resident who may not have heard the last of the clucking.
