It seems that the recent trend in dynamic packaging and non-package holiday bookings may finally be set to reverse.

ABTA reported an increase in package holiday bookings during 2012 with at least 48 per cent of those surveyed booking a package holiday.

The figures represent a significant shift in the priorities consumers have when booking their package holidays.  Package holiday bookings are up from 42 per cent in 2011 and 38 per cent in 2010.  As ABTA have highlighted, holidaymakers appear to be putting financial security, safe accommodation, ATOL protection and ABTA membership top of the list when thinking about booking their annual holiday.

Certainly, if you need to bring a claim as a result of an accident abroad or if something else goes wrong while you are on holiday, this is much easier where you booked a package.  Proposed reforms to the Package Travel Regulations are likely to change this in the future but, for the moment, you can only bring a claim against a UK based tour operator if things go wrong where you have booked a traditional package holiday.

It seems that the message travel lawyers like myself have attempted to spread year after year is now starting to catch on: keep booking those package holidays for better peace of mind, security and financial protection should things go wrong or if you have an accident abroad.
