The article reports that High Street stores such as Argos, Tesco and Asda are refusing to sell children's hair straighteners and crimpers which are decorated with pictures of princesses and such like which make them appear more like a toy than an electrical appliance.

Ken Dunn, consultant burns and plastic surgeon is reported as saying,: 'the statistics represent the worst cases that are referred to serious burns units. We believe the real figure is at least ten times higher because most cases are seen at accident and emergency departments or GP surgeries“ where the number of burns incidents are not collated.'

The article reports stories from parents direct of the types of injuries  their children have suffered from using them for example slipping and burning feet on straightners. Having acted for children who have been burnt whilst at hairdressers from perming lotions and having knowledge of other claims in the team where children have been burnt by stylists at salons from straighteners I would echo the above calls for these products not to be marketed to children. Burns are painful injuries and any steps to avoid children being inflicted with these should be supported.
