It is not always clear what to do if something should go wrong during an excursion.  Tour operators are in the best position to advise as to these excursions. The tourist understandably thinks that something bought from a rep, is being bought form the tour operator. That is not always the case.Very often the paperwork received on buying the excursion will be different to the tourist's impression as to who they are buying the excursion from. Any protection suggested by the rep could be worth little should something go wrong and the tourist needs some assistance.

Some tour operators are better than others at dealing with accidents during an excursion. English consumer law dictates that a Tour Operator can be liable for accidents where they are sold as part of the package holiday. As it is possible to promote an excursion but not sell it as part of the package holiday,  tour operators they can avoid liability following some of the most horrific accidents that we have had to deal with. Some reps may receive a commission for each excursion that they sell. Yet the tour operator may not be liable should something go wrong. Instead, Tour operators could better work with excursion providers  to ensure the safety of their clients, and openly offer excursions as part of the package holiday.
