online survey of over 8,000 nurses conducted by the Royal College of Nursing found that 46 per cent of nurses had tried to raise concerns about patient safety in the last six months" />

Nurses, scared to raise concerns due to intimidation

Unbelievably, the results of the survey were that:-

-- "A further one in four said when they tried to raise concerns about care their bosses did nothing;
People who try to speak out are 'bullied' by managers;
-- There was a culture of intimidation and it seemed normal to humiliate members of staff in front of their colleagues, this led to high staff turn-over and low morale".

The results of the survey are alarming because Nurses form the largest group of staff in the NHS and are a crucial part of the healthcare team.  If nurses are being threatened and intimated for complaining about poor standards of health care, then this does nothing to address or reduce the number of medical incidents that occur every year, some of which result in a successful claim for compensation against the hospital.
