He undertook gas installation and repairs to various properties. Mr Johnstone even used fake Gas Safe Register ID numbers, completing standard forms to help his deception.  An investigator from Gas Safe Register visited two properties that had been worked on by Mr Johnstone and found various defects which had left his customers' lives at risk.

The Health and Safety Executive brought proceedings against Mr Johnstone in the Crewe Magistrates Court . He was found guilty and was given a six month suspended prison sentence and 300 hours of community service and ordered to pay the prosecution's costs.  After the hearing the Health and Safety Executive advised there are a quarter of a million illegal gas jobs carried out every year by people without the skill or qualifications to work safely with gas. This is not only dangerous, but if  a customer's property is damaged or personal injury suffered, it is unlikely that the illegal gas fitters will be insured to compensate you.So when needing a Gas Engineer make sure they are listed on the Gas Safe Register for qualified engineers, otherwise you could be putting your home and lives at risk.
