The Times reported this morning about the ongoing dangers for those not protected by the MMR vaccination.

Professor Colin Blakemore, a leading scientist, has said that the problems may cause lifelong disabilities for the offspring of those not protected by MMR such as blindness, deafness and heart problems.  The worry is for those teenagers who have not been vaccinated and who will shortly reach child bearing age.  Their unborn babies and themselves are particularly at risk of Rubella or German measles.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the Rubella outbreak caused a number of children to be born deaf and blind, who still require lifelong care.  In addition, mumps can cause infertility amongst young men. These outcomes are preventable and those youngsters who are unsure about their vaccination history should contact their GP.
