Today I read a report of yet another fatal accident involving a cyclist in London, following a collision this time with a double decker bus.
The Government and the Mayor of London are doing everything they can to encourage cycling around the country and in London. But you have to question how safe the roads in big cities really are for cyclists as this is the reported to be the fifth fatality in just nine days in London, and the second on the Cycle Superhighway CS2.
"The superhighways - cycle routes running from outer London into and across central London - were designed to provide safe, fast and direct journeys for cyclists" says the BBC.
And Boris Johnson says "We're not going to get rid of CS2 but what we are doing and what has been long part of the cycling vision is we are going to have a lot of Quietways as well, so there will be alternative routes through to Stratford from Hackney."
I travel to London regularly myself and I have to admit that if I lived in London I would be reluctant to say the least to travel by bicycle purely due to the volume of traffic and the manner of driving which I see.
I sincerely hope that measures can be put in place quickly to protect cyclists for the future.
