I was interested to read this response from the MDU attacking the compensation bills for victims of medical negligence.

The MDU is looking at the wrong end of the issue. Patients should be compensated fairly and that compensation should be protected so that they are able to receive the care that they need throughout their lives, if necessary.

To deprive patients who have sustained injury as a result of clinical negligence from receiving the best and most appropriate care and assistance available is wrong.

What we should do however, is to address the issues that cause patients to bring the claims in the first place.  Medical staff and hospital trusts need to put procedures in place to learn from previous mistakes and not repeat them.
