I was interested to read an article in the Southern Evening Echo last Friday 16/1/2015 regarding mobility scooters and a call for something to be done about them due to the sheer numbers that are now on our pavements.

On this occasion a gentleman was coming out of a shop when a scooter going at quite a fast speed collided straight into him causing him injury and just carried on.

A few weeks ago when driving along the road I witnessed a chap on a mobility scooter riding along the pavement very fast steering with one hand and talking on his mobile phone with the other. I have also had first hand experience when out with my mother who has a mobility scooter and it amazes me how the majority of pedestrians do not look where they are going.

I believe both pedestrians and riders need to be more aware of one another by looking where they are going and by being more helpful by, for example. standing back when mobility scooters are accessing lifts. It would also help pedestrians if mobility scooters were restricted to walking speed.
