Quite often I am asked what is a Paralegal? Often people are not familiar with the term and are used to dealing with Solicitors.

A Paralegal is a person trained in legal matters, but is not fully qualified as a Solicitor they are sometimes referred to as a Legal Administrator or Legal Fee-Earner. Paralegals usually undergo some form of formal training. I have undertaken distance learning with Cilex Law School, but the most useful training a Paralegal will receive is from on the job training from which you will gain a wide variety of knowledge and know how.

A Paralegal, once trained, can offer legal advice and deal with legal matters. I am a paralegal and as I am based in the Travel Team I have trained primarily in personal injury, I am able to advise and handle travel claims abroad relating to personal injury. I also have experience of dealing with the recovery of travel outlays incurred by insurance companies where a third party is at fault.

It is said that Paralegals are becoming the fastest growing group within the legal profession and I am proud to be one of them.
