We have all been there stuck behind temporary traffic lights or traffic signs because of road works. It can be very frustrating because it adds time to our journey.

However, not all drivers are patient and road workers are continually being injured due to speeding, dangerous driving or sheer recklessness when driving through road works. It has been reported by one company that more than 200 of its staff have been injured in the last twelve months alone.

I was therefore interested to read in the Southern Daily Echo that on the 16 April 2015 it was proposed that CCTV cameras should be installed at road works across Hampshire to catch dangerous drivers who are putting lives of workers at risk. Highways firm Amey, who are responsible for carrying out road works across the country, is behind the action as are the Police and Hampshire County Council.

So next time you come across road works think about the ground workers and take a little more time and have a little more patience because it saves lives.
