EE have today announced they are recalling a number of their Power Bars, for safety reasons.

EE issued a press release stating they have "identified a very small number of incidents where Power Bars have overheated, all of which relate to batch E1-06 (written as Model:E1-06 on the side of the device), and could pose a fire safety risk".

The EE Power Bars are mobile phone chargers EE handed out to customers for free as part of a promotion. The offer was heavily promoted at a number of high profile events including Glastonbury Festival.

The recall comes just days after one of the chargers exploded and set fire to a medical student's bedroom causing her severe burns. Katy Emslie, described how the power bar "shot out like a firework" during charging in her laptop.

At the time EE stated that the occurrence was an "isolated incident", however it would appear that there have been further occasions where the Power Bars have overheated leading to the recall.

It is important users follow the advice from the manufacturer for product safety recalls. The chargers all bear the same model number although EE is offering advice on its website for those unsure of what to do, or how to determine whether they may have one of the defective items.
