The media reports that the Church of England recently ignored repeated calls for help from a survivor of sexual abuse. Apparently the Church had broken off communication on the orders of the church's insurers, when the survivor brought legal proceedings.

Previously the survivor had tried to report abuse two senior clerics in the 1970's. He has now received £35,000 compensation from the church.

An independent report commissioned by the Church of England contained damning criticisms of the way in which the church dealt with the matter.

It appears that the Church of England has still to "catch up" with the lessons learned by the Catholic Church.  In 2000, Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor asked an independent committee chaired by Lord Nolan to review the problem of clerical child abuse.

This was followed by the Cumberledge report in 2007 which made further recommendations for child protection in the Catholic Church.
