Unfortunately Monarch are no longer trading. This has left hundreds of thousands of passengers without flights. As Monarch are ATOL protected, no-one should be left stranded.
As a passenger, if you are abroad, there is probably no need to cut your trip short. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) are making arrangements to bring everyone home.
If you have yet to travel, the advice is to not go to the airport and you should receive a refund. If you have booked through a travel agent or tour operator, that tour operator or travel agent should be contacted.
We understand that tour operators are overwhelmed with enquiries and anyone who is unsure as to what to do should keep an eye on your tour operator's website. It is possible to contact the CAA if you are experiencing difficulties with your tour operator.
The benefits of ATOL protection are far reaching and ensures UK residents have amongst the best protection in the world. It does not extend protection to passengers who started their flight or holiday outside the UK, Such passengers may still have some protection from their own credit card provider or insurer.
The ATOL protection does not extend to the costs of a hotel where the hotel was not part of a package holiday or booked within a day of the flight as part of a 'flight-plus' arrangement. If a consumer booked or paid for a hotel separately from the flight, that will not be ATOL protected and again the consumer should look to their credit card provider or travel insurer.
