Katelyn passed away at the age of 18 months after having sustained scolding in an incident on 23 February 2007 when she fell in to a hot bath.  She was treated initially at Musgrove Park hospital in Taunton but was then transferred to the burns unit at Frenchay hospital in Bristol where she was treated for 30% burns.

In hospital she developed a high temperature and fast heart rate.  On 28 February 2007 it was planned to operate on her wounds but when Katelyn was anaesthetised she had a cardiac arrest and did not respond to resuscitation, and passed away.
Her family live in housing which was at the time run by South Somerset homes and the first stage of the inquest will seek to establish whether there was any problem with the thermostats of the hot water system at their home.  The second stage of the inquest will resume on 8 June 2011 when the medical care that Katelyn received at Frenchay hospital will be considered and the cause of her death determined.
John White, Head of the Clinical Negligence team at Blake Lapthorn solicitors, will be representing the family.
