There are reported to be some 60 Britons on board the ship which headed for Malaysia where the FCO was to provide Consular assistance for affected British passengers. The Captain is reported to have called passengers and crew to muster stations as a precautionary measure. The fire was apparently promptly brought under control and extinguished but the ship was left drifting without power. This alone could make for some unpleasant cruising conditions as passengers are deprived of the luxury services they will have contracted and paid for.

Escorted by the Philippine Navy, the ship should reach port safely. The incident will no doubt have marred the cruise for those on board and represents yet more bad publicity for the cruise industry.
